Woodlands Day Nursery is based in a small quaint chapel on the outskirts of Woodhall Spa. The nursery is known for it’s homely feel and caring staff.

Woodlands Day Nursery originally opened in April 1990 and was taken over by Alison and Tim Wright in June 2014 as part of Heath Farm Day Nursery Ltd.

Woodlands Day Nursery has developed excellent links with the local primary school over the years to ensure each and every child is fully supported during their transition towards the next stage in their learning. We also strive to develop strong parent partnerships to contribute towards the care, learning and development to ensure each child is supported to reach their full potential.

How Woodlands organise their day:

Upon arrival at 8am the children will be offered breakfast and a drink. The children are split into two main rooms, preschool and baby/toddler, according to their age and stage of development. The preschool room children enter and leave the building using the back entrance and the baby/toddler room children use the front entrance. This is to ensure neither rooms are disrupted by other children and parents walking through. The preschool room is able to offer free flow between the outdoor and indoor environment during the day.

Wet and Messy Play / Creative Area »

We offer opportunities for all children to explore messy play both indoors and outdoors on a daily basis. Messy play will consist of anything such as gloop, flour, paints, mud and even custard. Our popular mud kitchen outside provides opportunities to role play and experiment using the mud, and well thought out range of resources on offer as well as having access to the child level outside tap.

Structured play »

Planning is based around children’s current interests. We explore our talking tubs with the children in small groups on a regular basis and take their ideas and comments to explore their interests further. Activities are planned daily around the children’s ideas as we value their contributions and understand that children learn best when they are engaged and enjoy the activity. We encourage independence and give praise for their achievements to build a sense of belonging and to make them feel valued within the nursery.

Mealtimes »

All children come together at mealtimes in the large baby/toddler room. This allows siblings to be together and supports the younger children to learn from the older children and socialise as a group. Children currently bring their own packed lunch and we cook a healthy meal for tea around 4.15pm.

Outdoor Play »

The nursery provides a natural, well thought out garden offering a range of experiences for the children to explore. Our messy corner houses the mud kitchen and construction area with foam bricks and cement mixer to encourage role play. The planting area supports children to learn about growth and how things change over time and develops their knowledge and understanding of the world. Our undercover area has a large sandpit and is a safe, shaded space for the younger babies to sit and explore treasure baskets and socialise with their friends. The differing range of ride-on bikes supports children to pedal, steer, balance and share as they ride around the path. The outdoor area covers all areas of learning and development and is continually extended as children’s interests change.
